Elke Ferner

Chair, UN Women Deutschland e.V., Germany

Elke Ferner, is a German politician (SPD). She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2017. From December 2013 to March 2018, she was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

Since 2022, she has been responsible for the structures of national gender equality policy on the board of the German Women's Council. In April 2021, she was elected Chair of the Board of UN Women Germany. UN Women Germany is a National Committee of the United Nations Women's Rights Organisation and has consultative status in the UN Economic and Social Council. Since 2019, Ferner has been the Chair of the Consumer Association of Saarland.
